Skip counting

I am learning to skip count in 5s.  Next I will be try skip counting on from a number.

" I can skip count in 5's so it's easier to get to 100" said Sofia

Reading Eggs

I am learning to sound out 3 letter words by saying all the sounds and blending them together.  Reading Eggs helps me to reinforce my learning.

"Reading Eggs helps me to learn knowing about the alphabet and words" said Sofia

Acrostic poem

I am learning how to write an acrostic poem.  I know that I start each sentence with a letter of the subject.  I wrote about myself. 

"My writing is fantastic. I am great at fullstops and capitals and I didn't know this when I wasn't at school." Sofia

Bird pillow

For our Art Exhibition this year we learnt how to sketch a bird.  The final drawing was transferred onto calico and dye was added.  The bird was glued onto a pillow that Mrs Scott and Mrs Worsfold had sewn.  Don't they look great!

I am learning to sound out 3 letter words.

I am learning to say the first, middle and last sound in a word and then blend the sounds together to write the word.  This can help me in my reading and my writing.

"I can miss the words out if I do not know them.  I can look at the picture to give me a clue. " said Sofia.

Bunnings Adventure

"I can spell words that I don't know by roboting them" said Sofia

I am learning to write number sentences to 10 and then 20

I am learning to write number sentences to 10 and use this knowledge, when I play games, to solve problems in my head.

"  I can put the biggest number in my head and count on." said Sofia

Elm Park 50th Birthday Party

We launched our Celebration Inquiry with a huge party for Elm Park School. This year our school will turn 50! We had a great day with our school friends and our whanau.

Sofia said,"We had a party and I liked every bit of it."

We are learning to write for an audience and publish quality work to share.

We are learning about how people celebrate changes in season’s. We went on an Autumn treasure hunt around our school and collected leaves. This was the motivation for our story writing.

"I play with my buddy and read stories and the person reads to me."

I am learning to make the beginning sounds

I am learning to make the beginning sounds in unknown words.  I need to get my mouth ready to make the sound and this activity helps me remember.

" I can look at the pictures.  I can read and look." said Sofia

I am learning to count on from a number

Sofia,  you are able to read on from any number up to 20. Next we will be working on ordering numbers to 20 and above.

"I can count on from 5 or 10. I can count to 100 by myself." said Sofia
